Federal Regulations
Jasper ISD is subject to federal statutes and policies involving student information and online safety.
- FERPA protects the privacy of student education records, giving parents and eligible students rights to access and control the disclosure of their data.
- COPPA requires commercial websites collecting data from children under 13 to obtain verifiable parental consent. Schools can act as the parents' agent for educational purposes, but not for commercial use of the data.
- CIPA mandates that schools and libraries receiving federal E-rate funds implement internet safety policies, use content filters, and educate minors on appropriate online behavior.
- PPRA provides parents with rights regarding the collection of student information through certain surveys and allows them to opt their child out of participation.
