Three JISD campuses receive donation from Louisiana Pacific

Three Jasper Independent School district campuses recently received $1000 each, donated by Louisiana Pacific Corp.’s local OSB plant. Twice each year, every Louisiana Pacific plant donates between $3,000 and $5,000, depending on the size of the plant, back to the local community as part of the LP’s community relief fund.

The Jasper OSB plant earmarked its relief funds for the second half of 2010 for three JISD campuses: Jasper High School, Parnell Elementary and STARS campus. Jasper High and Parnell Elementary will each use the $1000 to upgrade the schools’ public address systems. The STARS campus will use its $1000 for support of at-risk students in each of the core subject area, according to Jasper OSB plant shipping manager Joe Boykin.

“JISD is appreciative of Louisiana Pacific’s generous donations for these campuses,” said Gwen Gilford, JISD assistant superintendent.

                                    The Life of Riley

I was already in bed reading a book when I heard the phone ringing.  It was just past 10:00 PM on Friday night.  To a school administrator a phone call at that hour usually means bad news…a bus has broken down on an out-of-town trip, a fire or security alarm is going off  somewhere, there was a pipe break and some facility is filling up with water or worse sewage, there was a fire or break-in in one of the buildings, and so forth.  In short, it is almost never good news.
