JHS receives grant from Dollar General

Jasper High School was awarded a $3000 literacy grant from the Dollar General Foundation.  The grant money is being used for the Bulldog Book Club, a group of fifteen JHS students who want to improve their reading skills.  The Bulldog Book Club members will receive a free book each month to read.  At the end of the month, the book club will meet to discuss that book, sharing their opinions about the book and its content/issues.  Some of the purposes of the club are to promote a life-long love of reading, establish rapport and promote tolerance among students from differing grade levels and backgrounds, boost students' self-esteem, and enhance the reading skills needed to master the state TAKS Reading Test.
